A Clinical and Mycological Studies on Tinea Corporis



Abstract
Authors performed a clinical and mycological studies on Tinea corporis of 277 out-patients who had visited the Department of Dermatology, College of Medicine, Chung Ang University, from July, 1978 to June, 1984.
The results were as follows;
1) The incidence of Tinea corporis was 0.89% of total 31,124 out-patients and 3.8¡Æ% of total 7,208 out-patients with superficial fungal diseases.
2) The ratio of male to female was 1.5 : 1(male 164: female 113) and showed more dominant in male.
3) Tinea corporis showed high incidence in third decade(23.8%), forth decade (21. 7¢¥/,Q¢¥) and second decade(15.9%).
4) The monthly prevalence of Tinea corporis was high in August(17. o%),, July(14.4%) and September(11.2%).
5) By lesional distribution, the exposed site was affected more frequent than covered site
and sites of predilection were the face in exposed site and the hip in covered site.
6) Coexisting fungal infections were found in 72 patients(26. 0%). Patients with Tinea corporis and Tinea cruris were the most commonly observed.
7) Positive rate of KOH examination was 79.4% and positive rate of culture was 41.2%.
8) Trichophytcn rubrum(56.1%), Trichophypon mentagrophytes(30.7%), Trichophyton ferr
ugineum(6. 1%), Microsporum canis(5.3%) and Epidermophyton floccosum(l.8%) were isolated in patients with Tinea corporis.
